Zoe Salmon is the latest celebrity to throw their support behind the inaugural Q Radiothon, teaming up with Q Radio presenter Ryan A to launch a Dress Down Day, taking place on Friday 1st June.
Under the inspiring banner of ‘Together We Can’, the Q Radiothon will raise money for four of Northern Ireland’s leading cancer and end of life charities.
The first of its kind in Northern Ireland, the three day on-air fundraiser, voiced by Patrick Kielty, will take place from Thursday 31st May until Saturday 2nd June, with Action Cancer, Friends of the Cancer Centre, Marie Curie and Cancer Fund for Children selected as the beneficiaries of all money raised.
The Dress Down Day joins the Big Brunch as suggestions on how organisations and individuals can come together and raise money for the four participating charities.
Commenting on the initiative Managing Director and Head of Programmes at Q Radio Robert Walshe said:
“We are well and truly on the countdown to our first ever radiothon and the excitement throughout the station as well as among our listeners and charities is palpable.
“The Dress Down Day is a simple way for organisations and schools to raise money for a cause that the majority of pupils or staff will have been touched by, either directly or via a friend or family member. At Q Radio we are committed to local content, local people and local issues and this Radiothon is our way of reinforcing such commitment. “
Over the three days, programmes will be broadcast live from a purpose-built studio at Friends of the Cancer Centre, which is based at the heart of the Cancer Centre at Belfast City Hospital, with regular live inserts from each of the other charity headquarters. Content will be driven by the work undertaken by each of the participating charities as well as the people they have supported, and listeners will be encouraged to donate across the day.
