Lizzie Colvin, a solicitor at the Belfast office of international legal business DWF, has been chosen to represent Ireland at the Vitality Hockey Women’s World Cup in London this July.
Taking place at the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Lizzie is one of five Ulster girls picked for the team.
Lizzie already has an incredible 155 caps for Ireland and also plays for Belfast Harlequins Hockey club as a midfielder.
With intensive training and preparation for the tournament, Lizzie, who specialises in employment law in DWF’s commercial team, has been balancing her time in the office and on the pitch.
“We have been training five times a week, which has made life very busy – but my colleagues at DWF have been brilliant – supporting and helping me so I can balance work and practice,” explains Lizzie.
“Playing at this level has been demanding, and required a great deal of focus, commitment and passion for the sport – but the same applies to my role as a solicitor. The partners at DWF have been behind me all the way – and I hope to do everyone proud – I can’t thank them enough for their encouragement!”
Ken Rutherford, Executive Partner at DWF Belfast added,
“It is such an honour for Lizzie to play for Ireland at the Hockey World Cup, and all of us at DWF are incredibly proud of her achievements. It is important to have a healthy work life balance and Lizzie has worked so hard to build both her law and hockey careers with great success. Having played hockey myself, I know how intense and demanding the training can be, especially at a high-level. We will be watching and supporting Lizzie all the way and we wish the Ireland team the best of luck for the rest of their training and matches to come.”
Team Ireland will go up against the USA in their first match on the 21st July.
