Radio is enjoying a record-breaking purple patch in Northern Ireland – with no fewer than 93% (just over 1.4 million) of the population tuning in every week.
According to the latest RAJAR * figures, Bauer NI is leading the way in this extraordinary era for broadcasting with two of its three stations, Cool FM (473,000 listeners) and Downtown (244,000 listeners), the province’s Number One and Two commercial radio stations respectively.
Managing Director, Mark Mahaffy said it was an exciting time to be involved in radio.
“With a collective listenership of 683,000, it is extremely pleasing to see Bauer NI at the forefront of a purple patch for radio.
“We’re delighted with the performance of our trio of stations within the overall market. Cool is once again the biggest local commercial station here with 473,000 weekly listeners, while Downtown has recorded just shy of a quarter of a million listeners, and its sibling station, Downtown Country, has also retained the number one position for a digital audience in the province.
“Significantly, this is good news for advertisers, and recent research just released by the Radio Centre, also paints a positive picture for the medium as advertising on radio accounted for the biggest percentage increase of all media including internet in the first quarter of 2018”.
